On the 2nd March 2025 the Oscars were  held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood In LA. Awards for numerous categories in film were presented and with each award a speech was given. The speeches given by Zoe Saldana, Mikey Madison and Adrien Brody will be covered in this analysis as they were  interesting.

Zoe Saldana was the winner of the category best supporting actress for  the movie ‘Emilia Perez’. Her speech was very genuine and emotional. She starts off by calling out to her mother and stating that her entire family was at the show to witness her winning.  She not only thanks the cast and crew of her movie but also the other nominees. By acknowledging the hard work of the other nominees she comes off as humble and likeable to the audience. She also uses humor in her speech as she highlights another family member, her husband, who is there to support her. She uses the language style, grand style, as she speaks of her sons evoking vivid imagery from the audience. She evokes emotions from the audience as she dedicates the award to her grandmother who couldn’t be at the event. She evokes hope from the audience as she states how she is the first American of Dominican descent to win this award and that she will not be the last to win this award. Her delivery was very clear and loud. The time limit for an Oscar speech is very short and her pace was fast enough to thank everyone and say what she needed to in that time period.   She was able to make eye contact with the crowd and create a closeness with her audience.

The actress Mikey Madison was the winner of the category of best actress in a leading role. This was Mikey’s first Oscar win and nomination and she was very nervous. She read off a  piece of paper so  her eye contact with the audience was not the best but she interacted with her audience and used humor in her speech as she addressed her family. She  fumbled a bit but her speech was very loud and clear. Giving praise to the other nominees in this category and bringing light to  sex work made her seem down to earth and humble. Reading from the paper made her appear not as prepared but she had a good pace to finish in the given time limit.

The winner of the category ‘ best actor in a leading role’ was Adrien Brody for his role in  ‘ The Brutalist’. This was his second Oscar win and second nomination and because of this he appeared very relaxed.  His delivery was  slow and clear. This is great for the audience to understand his speech but in this situation it had a bad outcome. His slow delivery causes him to  reach  the speech time limit without finishing his speech  and the  music signaling the end  begins to play. However he is able to use humor to take control of the situation and go over this time limit to finish his speech. He interacts with his audience, listening as someone shouts a name out. He leaves his audience with a final message of hope and something to take away from his speech as he brings up hate and fighting for what’s right in the world today. All these speeches caused different reactions from the  audience and showcase different  speech styles and delivery. This made them memorable and interesting to watch.
